Using the right tags and categories are important, but it is even harder to find as well.

You need to do researches, as well and while you’re writing you need to look at and reading what you are writing as well, it can’t get done in a frank manner.

Here is the list for the good and bad practices for writing tags and categories that you should follow while working.

Mistake 1: Not Making Niche Subcategories

Making a Niche subcategory means narrowing down to a specific topic making sure that the reader gets to read what he likes to read.

It’s like specifying about where do the birds live in different parts of a tree

Alot of the times while making Categories making this mistake makes it hard for the reader to choose that type of content he is willing to read.

Mistake 3: Too many categories, not enough tags

This is a really common error that even proficient content publishers can make — especially once your site starts to outgrow its original purpose.

It’s just like how too less water won’t fill your thrust and too much water will simply go to waste.

It’s easy to just assign another category and dump posts into it, but that starts to create a very cluttered category structure. This is where tags can step in to do the job of tying together your posts.

Think of it this way: Categories are best for segmenting your content into broad sections. Tags help further refine and filter each post into specific sub-sections.

Mistake 4: Not Using WP.com & WP.org Tags Carefully

While working with tags, you should always make yourself aware of the types of tags you are working on.

The WordPress.com tags give you the freedom to use various of its features and more tags to increase your audience base to a large number.

While Using WordPress.org tags, using more tags can lead to duplication of tags as well as making your article relevant to the SEO algorithm and so to the readers.

Mistake 5: Making A Category Just For A Single Piece Of Content

You should never make a category for just a single piece of content if you’re not willing to continue it any further in the future.

This mistake is the type of mistake that every new writer makes in the starting of their online WordPress writing career.

What happens when you make a category and stops writing under that after just one article is that it starts to become irrelevant to your blog as well as for the audience

Mistake 6: Not Doing Keyword Research

Keyword research is one of the most crucial steps in WordPress writing.

Using the right keyword for your content can boost your audience like a skyrocket jump without making you out all of your heart and soul in it.

Mistake 7: Using the same tags and categories again and again

A lot of people create their tags and categories more than once, the problem of duplication takes place in this situation.

It makes the content hard to rank in the SEO, and even harder to be found by the reader in the crowd of so many related contents.

Mistake 8: Using Too Many Tags

Just like using too fewer tags or no tags, using too many tags can also affect the reach of your content.

You should always keep in mind that every tag you use create a part of itself in the web, and you should not be using any more tags than your contents requires.

These were all the few basic yet important tag and category practices that you should follow while working with WordPress.
